My Resume

I am currently working as the lead web developer at Vigilant Woodworks, where I am in charge of both of their websites: vigilantinc.com and furnishingsandfixtures.com. I am also in charge of designing, building, and sending out their broadcast email campaigns.

I graduated from Clarkson University in May of 2009 with a dual degree in Digital Arts & Sciences and Mathematics. Clarkson is located in upstate New York. I loved my 4 years there.

When I was 15 I recieved the domain jacobswain.com as a gift. At that time I really didn't know how to go about making a website, but I jumped in and started learning as much as I could about building websites. After very little time at all I had my first real website put together. Since then I have re-designed jacobswain.com six times, each time I push it a little further, and learn a little more. Once I was comfortable with creating my own websites, I started to offer my services to other people. I volunteered and created a website for my old elementary school, and a drug prevention council. Then Clarkson hired me to create and maintain a section of their website. By this time I had realized that I wanted websites to be more than just a hobby.

I have spent time working at two different web design buisinesses: Dittmar Designs in Virginia and Interactive Media Consulting in New York. I am highly proficient in HTML, CSS, and Javascript and I am in the process of building my PHP and Flash knowledge base. I love the puzzle of turning a Photoshop mockup into a website, and all the challenges that arise in the process. Each design brings with it its own new problems and pushes me to learn new techniques and become more creative.

I have also spent a lot of time in the last couple of years creating 3d models and animations. I am particularly interested in the product design aspect of 3d modeling. I love imagining an object, something new that no one has ever seen before, and then seeing my idea come to life in a 3d model. I have always been interested in architecture and design, and this is the perfect medium for me to be able to express myself, and show my ideas to others.

When I’m not at my computer, I enjoy the outdoors. I am an avid hiker, mountain biker, and snowboarder. I have spent a lot of time in the last couple of years exploring the Adirondacks’ hundreds of miles of hiking trails. Getting out into the mountains is a great way for me to relax, but I am also constantly inspired by what I see out there. Hiking gives me a lot of time to think about and plan for future projects.
